in the month of March there is a festival named Brij Festival

January is just the right month for a desert spree, and Bikaner
just the right place to see the Ships of the Desert. In the
camel country Bikaner, these desert leviathans pull heavy cart
loads, transport grain and even work at the wells. |

Jaisalmer is a gilded fantasy juxtaposed in a formidable desert.
To say the least, it is a shimmer of sand amidst the sun soaked
sky.Jaisalmer Fort is the stellar attraction standing on a hill
to the south overlooking the town. The base of the fort is circled
by a wall of solid stone blocks over which the Trikuta hill
projects, and supports the ramparts forming a double line of

The elephant has references in Indian mythology. As goods or
Devas and the demons or Asuras churned the oceans during "sagar
manthan" for the elixir of life that would make them immortal,
there surfaced the "navratnas" - nine jewels. |

Jaipur, commonly referred to as the Pink City of Rajasthan not
only abounds in rich tourist spots but also celebrates special
occasions of life in high spirits. Dashed with bright colors
the celebrations in Jaipur are something which you must witness.

14 January is celebrated in India as Makar Sankranti - heralding
the transition of the sun into the Northern hemisphere. It is
also a big kite day in most parts of India when children from
6 to 60 can be seen with their heads turned to the sky. In Jaipur
kites virtually blot out the sky. Everyone joins in this riotous
celebration and shouts of " Woh Kata Hai !" |

Held in October in Jodhpur, this annual event attempts to showcase
the art and culture of the Jodhpur region. It is devoted almost
exclusively to songs and dance, and the Maand Festival has become
a part of this huge regional celebration. |

The Mewar Festival is celebrated to welcome the advent of spring.
It coincides with the festival of Gangaur in Udaipur and has
a unique charm about it. The festival of Gangaur is very significant
for women of Rajasthan. It is a time for them to dress up in
their best clothes and participate in the festival. |

Also called as the Cattle Fair, is the 2nd largest animal fair
of India. Thousands of animals are gathered at the cattle fair
for trading. Traders come to buy and sell cows, bullocks (Nagauri
breed is renowned), oxen and camels. |

Every year thousands of devotees throng the lake around the
full moon day of Kartik Purnima in October-November to take
a holy dip in the lake. Huge and colorful cattle fair "The
Pushkar Fair", is also held during this time. |

The Shekhawati Festival held on I0th and 11th February every
year is organised jointly by the State Department of Tourism,
District administration of Sikar, Jhunjhunu and Churu, and the
M.R. Morarka- GDC Rural Research Foundation. |
